My apologies but this is not a good book, its a great collection of quoted works with a minimal value add. To summarize, it reads like a free seminar given to sale a companies services at best or simply the sale of a subscription service to an online series of check lists. It would appear more time was spent trying to trademark the mundane frame work of the book and perhaps a workshop or the free seminar. An equally fair amount of time was spent giving credit to the source material for a majority of the book's content. Ninety-one by the authors account under footnote references can be applauded for giving credit where its due. Most are clearly a good read, best sellers or otherwise solid source material, but here these are reduced to a point hardly more useful than a Tweet on Twitter. A practice done regularly I might add in poor fashion by countless people online daily. However this happens to be a substantial portion of the books content and hardly worthy of the level of praise in some reviews. I imagine those to be more satisfied clients or colleagues rather than a regular reader seeking the BEST. In the end, perhaps the book was given for free at such a seminar and wish that was the case for mine. It simply reads like an outline for such a program.

When an author promotes his or her book as being the "BEST" one on a topic, it needs to follow through.This one delves deeply into selling a business to third parties, and includes many good checklists to prepare for buyers' due diligence. (These would also be beneficial for first time buyers as well.)But, don't expect this book to provide any insight into the other options that should be considered in a typical "Exit Strategy", such as passing the business to family members, or selling it to employees. (These approaches are actually used in more ownership transfers than sales to outsiders.)Overall, I'd say it's a GREAT guide for selling a business; but LIMITED as a handbook on Exit Strategies overall.
The vast majority of owners of privately held businesses get one shot at monetizing the value of the business it has taken their lifetime to build. If you are a business owner looking to sell in the next few years, please read this book. Mr. Mill's insights into the processes and resources needed to prepare your business to attract the largest number and most desirable buyers could prove to be invaluable to your enjoyment of life after sale.
Poorly written advertising propaganda disguised as a book. The majority of the book is a series of checklists that you can probably find for free on the internet.
I am concerned about most of the reviews posted here. It is now 2016 but all of the reviews were posted during a two month period in 2013, with none being more recent. Many are even published on the same day! Many of the reviews repeat basic language from the publishers advertisement verbatim. The net result is that I have no confidence in the reviews, and have chosen not to buy a book that I otherwise might have purchased.
I've done a number of transactions over the years in both public and privately held companies. This is a great, practical guide for the business owner and the exit team to use to plan, implement, track and monitor the exit process. It not only gives several great checklists, but it explains why a potential buyer wants this information. I see too many owners not clean up the business (just like prepping a house for sale) and end up with surprises that torpedo the deal. One area I would like to have seen more on was on the mental preparation of the owner, so they are prepared for life after the transaction.
