Great book for budding entomologists. This book is full of facts, wonderful pictures and projects. There are places to journal things so it's great for kids to really learn about and study different bugs, butterflies, etc. My kids are obsessed with anything entomology right now, so this is a great way for them to capture what they are learning in a book/journal. We also have other books from this same company and love those as well. This is a great series. We love that it's not just about reading facts and stories, but also includes projects, journal pages, etc.
Very well written with beautiful pictures. My 7 year old granddaughter is an outdoor princess who isn't satisfied with merely seeing things - she wants to know what she's seeing & some information about it. This entire series of books does just that. Makes identifying very easy & gives factual information in just the right amount for elementary age children . Highly recommend!
One of the most simple and educational books to help my grandchildren learn about insects and really has helped them overcome their fears of creepy, crawly things. They are interesting, colorful and descriptive books which teaches children how nature really is fantastic.
I bought this book for my 5 year old niece before a trip to rocky mountain national park. She loved it and we had so much fun learning together and discovering all the creatures.
This is a really excellent book about insects for bright and inquisitive kids 6-12. It is well organized, nicely illustrated, and very informative without overloading the reader with too much information. I'm sure I'll be getting additional copies for future gifts. Thank you author Mel Goring and Illustrator Linda Garrow: superb work!
I also gave this book to a 7 year old boy for his graduation into 1st grade and I have been told that he hasn't put it down. He was so excited to get this book and the one about birds. He is into birds, bugs, and dinosaurs so these books really has helped him with his reading and identifying the different bugs he sees here in Florida.
HE even took it to school and the teacher read it to the class. Now he wants some of the other titles for his birthday. And he HATES reading. This is excellent
I bought this for my 4 year old son after finding a couple of tobacco hornworms in the tomato garden last summer. The author did a good job balancing the content and picking the most popular bugs to cover. The tomato hornworm is covered, but not tobacco hornworm. But that's just a little detail I can easily gloss over. Although the text is small, the illustrations are so good that they hold his attention while I read to him. His favorite pages are the tomato hornworm, banded woolly bear caterpillar, ladybug, and katydid. He also loves the how-to page on capturing a banded woolly bear in the fall and watching it turn into a moth in the spring.
