Love! Bought this book for my 3yo. We were reading another Easter story book and it was like "Jesus went away for a while and His friends were sad but then He came back and they were happy" ummm, no. This book does a great job of telling the real story without being gory/brutal. I feel it's important for our kids (no matter how young) that they know Jesus died and it was horrible but 3 days later Jesus was alive and that's why we celebrate!! Highly recommend.
I thought this was an excellent little book. I make it priority for my child to know what the holidays really mean and I thought this little book was perfect for my 15 month old. He's at the stage where rips pages, so the board book is essential. The illustrations are great, and I like the way the story is written. I know some reviews mentioned the negative wording, but I'm not sure how else you could explain what happened without using them. Sometimes our kids just have to learn to accept and understand that it's not always joy and laughter.
Book is very dark, not a book for children. It uses words - like , Hate - such a powerful word for a child or even adult ! It tells that Jesus was hung on a tree, such an awful image for a child to have ( I know the book is trying to explain the cross but NOT this way!)I bought two of these books to give to my nieces and nephew on Easter, but after reading it (and having several other adults read it, All agreed the story was written in a DARK way, NOT suitable for children) decided to NOT give any for a gift.I was very disappointed as the book's appearance is very cute and the handle is a great idea for toddlers.This is the Only book written by Thomas Nelson I have not liked, his children books are usually Excellent, but not this one.
I bought this for my 15-month-old daughter and it was perfect. She loves the pictures and I love the words! I'm a music teacher so I greatly appreciate the amount of thought put into the rhyme and meter of the book. It's very rhythmically enticing and rolls off the tongue much like nursery-rhymes do. It keeps her attention well.It's also very Biblically accurate. I've bought other books for my niece and nephew that leave me thinking, "that is NOT how the Bible goes!" (I'm assuming for the sake of not freaking out kids by watering it down) and then I have to give a disclaimer, but this one is spot on. It does tell the story of how Jesus died, but it's a very positive account that I'm sure won't scare my daughter when she's a little older and understands more.It's also very sturdy. My daughter is somewhat rough with books, but it's a quality board-book that held up to her little teeth and her love of eating books!I just ordered Thomas Nelson's "Bible for Toddlers" and I'm hoping that it will be just as good quality as this book was. I love this one so much that I'm sure his actual Bible will be wonderful. I most definitely suggest this book for anyone who wants to share the story of Easter with their little one.
The absolute PERFECT book for teaching children the true meaning of Easter. I read this and explained the pictures to my 3 year old son and he can perfectly explain everything that happened in the Easter story. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to teach younger children the meaning of Easter through an easy to understand rhyming story and correlating pictures. But be ready to read this over and overy, my son recommended this book several times a day every day!
Wow, this book is super! It rhymes, the illustrations are so cute and the story of Jesus is accurate! Other books leave out the cross or make Easter about "spring time". I am seriously considering buying this for all my friends when they have babies.
This is a great Easter story book. My 1.5 year old enjoys the rhyming narrative, the handle on the spine, and familiar animals (sheep, donkey, even a dalmatian...). I like that it's accurate, i.e. not too dumbed down. It will certainly allow for education and discussion as my kiddo grows. Some people may not like it for a child b/c it does include the original dark elements of the Easter story such as hatred and death. Nevertheless, it ends on a positive Christian note.
I bought this book for my 2 year old's Easter Basket. I like to remind my children that Easter isn't just about egg hunts and candy, but really about Jesus instead. This book did a great job of explaining everything. It went much more in depth than I anticipated and I really liked that. My toddler loves the handle in the book and is constantly carrying it around. It really is a great little book for little kids. Even my 5 year old enjoyed the story.
