Amazon.com Review

In 1953, When Audrey Hepburn burst onto the screen in Roman Holiday, she forever changed the international ideal of elegance, grace, and beauty. Suddenly, glamour and even sexiness seemed attainable for women everywhere; Audrey was uncommonly beautiful, but she was real--hers was a look anyone could aim for, but few could pull off as effortlessly or effectively. By mixing a few classic elements of "Audrey style"--the little black dress, ballet flats with slim capri pants, bold hats and sunglasses--suburban housewives became more Hollywood than Hoboken in an instant. Here author Pamela Clarke Keogh introduces us to the woman behind the clothes, using words from friends, fellow actors, and designers who dressed her to paint a picture of a truly remarkable woman. A humanitarian, artist, friend, and above all, survivor, Audrey inspired women and men alike to approach life with spirit, grace, and simplicity. The nearly 100 color and black-and-white photographs, paired with original sketches from such fashion luminaries as Givenchy, Manolo Blahnik, and Vera Wang, show that Audrey was much more than a beautiful, well-dressed personality; her courage and individuality come shining through in every page. --Leah Ball

"In every movie I have ever watched, starting with" Roman Holiday, " I was in love with Audrey Hepburn. I played every part--I was Gregory Peck a long time ago! I was Bill Holden, I was Cary Grant, I was her biggest fan." -- Ralph Lauren"The imprint of Miss Hepburn is absolutely, totally present. Like it or not, she will be the most important look of the twentieth century." -- Manolo Blahnik"I liked her a lot; in fact, I loved Audrey. It was easy to love her." -- Gregory Peck

The text is very original and inspiring because for the first time it describes Audrey as more than a legendary film star and a physical beauty, and focuses on her personality and her own life's philosophy that any human being can achieve. One should remember that what made her an enduring star and a legend (#3 in AFI's film legends) was her winning personality and wit. Audrey stands for the premise that what counts is the inner beauty regardless of the physical make-up that one is born with. To this effect, there are a lot of pretty faces that do not even show in the charm department. What really counts is the enduring charm that anybody can develop as a good spirited human being. In the charm department, one's effort to attain sophistication in earnest can make up for whatever the physical appearance. The single picture that I would like to remark is on page 12: when Audrey's gorgeous energy and infectious smile are captured with a huge jump in the air.I also recommend the book "ADIEU AUDREY". It has the best qulity pictures I have ever seen, in a thick quality paper, and in sepia tint that will satisfy to any photography buff.

I think Audrey Hepburn will be eternally remembered not only as one of the kindest and most generous women that has ever volunteered for Unicef, but to us women as a timeless, most graceful role model of style. She's the perfect embodiment of the adagio that in elegance less is more. Her streamlined, understated style that yet made one of the biggest statements in fashion history continues to be an inspiration to us women of the 21st century despite the forty years that separate us from "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Clarke Keogh's book captures Audrey's spirit like no other. It is beautifully illustrated and there are contributions from Hubert de Givenchy, Ralph Lauren or Gregory Peck, among other people who generously share with us souvenirs of this angel of grace that they had the chance to meet in person. Her wardrobe and makeup are meticulously reviewed and this book will prove an invaluable tool and source of inspiration for all those women who want to bring more elegance and refinement into their lives. One of the best assets in your style bookcase and one that you will gladly pass down to generations of graceful women to come.

Great book. Quick read with lots of photos. Perfect to get the highlights of Audrey Hepburn's life, films and fashion.

It's putting the quirky details together that makes this book more revealing than the standard saccharin drenched puff piece. For example, Hepburn is quoted as saying that she wears a size 8 1/2 shoe, while the author clearly states later in the book that Hepburn wore a size ten.Her mother's quotes, if accurate, provide convincing evidence that the Baroness Von Heemstra was more than a little jealous of her far more beautiful daughter. The author's claim that Audrey "didn't eat during times of stress" directly contradicts close friends Audrey Wilder and Doris Brynner, who claimed that Hepburn loved to eat. As for her staying so thin due to malnutrition that "permanently altered her metabolism", this is unlikely. According to the author, Hepburn speaks of gaining twenty pounds early in her career. Other bios confirm this. Perhaps in later years Hepburn simply watched what she ate.According to the author, Hepburn washed her hair every four or five days. She SMOKED. Whew, draw your OWN conclusions about that one!I've found Robert Wolders a bit creepy ever since I read about him in "Queenie", a superb biography of Merle Oberon. From Merle to Audrey to Shirlee Fonda; this guy clearly has a THING for wealthy, older glamour girls. He's always described as an actor/businessman. Hmmmmmmm. An additional strength of this book is its focus on her personal fashion philosophy--not just her association with Givenchy.Audrey Hepburn is my absolute favorite and always will be. She had many lessons to teach; not only about beauty and elegance, but also about tolerance, grace and kindness. No star of today can compare. PS-I'm just tucking into the Barry Paris book, which is FAR more in depth. I recommend following Audrey Style with this one if you haven't already read it.

As an avid admirer of Audrey Hepburn, I have long been aware that she was not just exceptionally beautiful, but genuinely kind and generous as well. This book serves as not only a tribute to a personal grace, beauty, and stylishness beyond compare, but manages to also capture her history as a great humanitarian. I was enthralled by the elegant photographs and the insightful prose accompanying them. Like Audrey, this book is the epitome of grace, beauty, style, warmth, and substance. Exceptional subject AND exceptional author, indeed! I will return to this volume again and again for many years to come. It deserves 5+ stars!!

This is a lovely valentine to Audrey, part biography (most of the facts without any innuendo or scandal) and part guide to how her style made her memorable. Conclusion: she knew herself, what she liked and what looked good on her. Some extraneous interviews with celebrities who never knew her but many from those who did (rare insights from her companion Rob Wolders). Lots of photos even this lifelong Audrey fan had never seen before. Audrey's true beauty (of spirit) came from within. In the end we learn, alas, that's where we must find ours. Recommended to start or add to a collection of Audreybilia.

This book is absolutely amazing, I've been a huge fan of Audrey, obviously she's my favorite actress and I enjoy every single movie of hers, but when I took a deeper look to her as human being I learn to love her and admired her so much that I think she's one of the biggest influence in my life. This book completely shows the real Audrey a lovely flawless woman, who fought through many things yet she came so classy and lovely that's something you don't see nowadays her grace and class that is a gift.Anyone that loves Audrey must read this book.
