John Weiler takes something lofty and often times glamorized (traveling abroad) and pulls back the curtain on the nitty gritty work it actually takes to make dreams become reality and then transformable life changing memories. Peppered with humor and humanizing moments in what could be dry topics such as how to get a visa, I found myself clicking on his links and using his suggestions instantaneously while I was reading the ebook as his directions were specific and interesting. Wish I had this information years ago in one place, it would have saved me a lot of time trying to figure out where to begin.
Short and sweet! Backpack Abroad Now is well written and gives the reader valuable insight into traveling abroad. Each chapter provides helpful tips on topics related to traveling abroad. I personally found chapters 1, 3, and 5 helpful. Chapter 1 covers frequent flyer miles and the ins and outs of these programs as well as listing some websites and links for more information. Chapter 3 was especially helpful, this chapter covers visas and onward ticket requirements which I had no idea even existed. Chapter 5 covers making money while abroad in Australia; this chapter also gives some wonderful tips and includes websites and links for more information. The book is exceptional and written by an author who very clearly knows what he is talking because he has experienced it in some way or form. I highly recommend this book for anyone considering traveling abroad, it is priced well and worth the investment for the quality of the information contained in the book.
I have always dreamed about living abroad and living cheaply out of a suitcase. For the last few months I've been doing that and have been living the dream with major help from Backpack Abroad Now. This is the second book I've read from Weiler and both have been inspiring and helpful!
Very informative book about travelling and working abroad, I would recommend to any person starting a trip abroad.
This is a quick easy read but has some valuable resources in it. It made me think a trip like this would be doable. The only thing I would suggest is that it would be nice to read some of Weiler's personal experiences where he hit a road block and how he resolved it.
Great book to read. Great Motivation. I would recommend to young colleauges like me who wanna start a trip abroad. It contains valuable resources in it too!
But I prefer Europe. There is nothing like a free lunch at a brewery (at least back in the 70's), of course, you had to endure a brewery tour and a tasting of their brew but it was a sacrifice we made. Also when you are backpacking and broke peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a great meal.
Great information which anyone can use to fund their next overseas adventure!
