About the Author
Michael Sugich is a native of Santa Barbara, California and studied at UCLA and the California Institute of the Arts. He was initiated into a traditional Sufi order in 1972. Since that time he has studied Sufi doctrine and practice with spiritual masters across the Arab and Islamic world. He lived for 23 years in the precincts of the sacred city of Makkah Al Mukaramah where he kept company with many men of knowledge and illumination. He has written Palaces of India (Pavilion Books), a travel book, and Living in Makkah (Macdonald Publishers), a children's book, and, most recently a feature documentary film on the life of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Faisal: Legacy of a King.

Many modern day Muslims no longer know of their existence, and some even go as far as denying them completely by falsely declaring, "There are no saints in Islam!" In fact there are, and this book by Michael Haroon Sugich is a personal account of his meeting several of them from the modern era.Everday practicing Muslims supplicate to God at least 17 times a day when reciting the opening chapter of the Qur'an (al-Fatiha) to, "Guide us to the Straight Path, THE PATH OF THOSE WHOM YOU HAVE BLESSED." These verses (among so many others) prove that Islam is not merely a theoretical set of rules to be understood and applied on one's own, but is a living and breathing faith that can only be truly learned and applied under the guidance and companionship of those whom God Himself has blessed.
An unusually great read and a lot to absorb. The spiritual life we share shown through the eyes of one who can 'see' and this blesses us all.
Moving, inspirational, tear-jerker. Love the personal stories and love even more that they are about people who lived here and now, or a few years ago. Just wish the book did NOT include photographs, I feel like they are disrespectful to the legacy of the awliyaa'.
I really liked many of the vignettes in this book, though some of the early ones did have a touch quasi-Orientalist obsession with traditional culture (as if there is such a thing.) I feel like the author didn't bother to introduce himself, which would've been useful.
Thoroughly enjoyed Mike's book , I've been wanting to learn about the real sufi way and this has been the best way to show this In real life...Mike has been blessed to learn from countless sufi saints and this may be the closest many of us come to hearing this wisdom.
Gives hope.

I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but it certainly exceeded whatever expectations I may have had. This collection of day-to-day miracles manifesting the intervention of the Divine in people's lives was an incredible read. I couldn't put it down.
